All Local, All The Time

Letter to the Editor (April 8)

Series: Letters to the Editor | Story 12

To the Editor:

First of all, many thanks to the Courier for 23 years of community reporting. We will miss the print edition, and urge everyone to subscribe to the online edition to keep this publication going!

In response to the March 18th letter to the editor by Cornelia Sawle promoting Niwot “self rule:” (Cornelia is the owner of the Niwot Inn and a member of the NEISC - Niwot Exploratory Incorporation Study Committee.)

While we appreciate the considerable effort that has gone into the Incorporation Study, we think it is time for the NEISC to put aside their issues with Boulder County regarding the building moratorium of 2019 that is fueling their agenda to incorporate Niwot. The moratorium ended nearly a year ago, and for many of us, the incorporation issue is now a worrisome community distraction during a time of national crisis.

By any measure, we have always believed that incorporation is the wrong choice for Niwot, presenting more risks than benefits. In light of current events, it seems unreasonable to even consider incorporation while both businesses and citizens are faced with unprecedented economic and personal challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is unknown how long it will take local, national and global economies to recover from this disaster. Clearly, incorporation is no longer even a rational choice. It’s time to let it go.

It just seems like common sense that it is time for everyone to unite around the common good. Let’s shift our energy towards supporting one another through this crisis. Shop local at Niwot Market and Niwot Liquor. Support our restaurants by ordering take-out food or beverages. We are all in this together! We are all in this together!

Respectfully, Niwot for Common Sense
