NCA coronavirus postponements

The stay-at-home order for Colorado due to the coronavirus has put the Niwot Community Association’s plans on hold.

The group met April 1 by teleconference to discuss what should be done about the April annual meeting, the May Clean Up Day and the July 4 parade.

The April annual meeting is cancelled. NCA members had proposed holding a live-streamed meeting, but the group decided that it was impractical. “The limitations of an online meeting would make it really difficult for many members to participate,” said NCA President David Limbach. “The logistics just don’t work.”

Membership Chair Johnny Barrett pointed out that the annual meeting is more than just hearing an update on what activities and issues the NCA is dealing with during the year. “The annual meeting is all about relationships,” Barrett commented. “You can’t have in-depth conversations with people about their ideas and issues online.”

Elections

Elections for NCA board officers and members, however, will be conducted by email, with an option for paper voting. Current members were contacted by email on April 2, with instructions on how to submit a vote; the email also contained a link on how to download the ballot form to vote by mail.

Officers up for election include Limbach for president, Leonard Sitongia for secretary, Diane Zimmermann for director at large for communications, Craig Rahenkamp for director at large for trails and open space, Kim Hawksworth for director at large for event planning, Liz Marr for director at large for subdivision roads, and Liz Schmidt as director at large.

In addition, four area representative positions are on the ballot. Area 2 representative Craig Rahenkamp, Area 4 representative Mark Brigham and Area 8 representative Derek Curd are all seeking reelection. Area 6 has an open slot and is seeking a write-in candidate. Area 6 encompasses residents living between Highway 52 and Lookout Road, west of Highway 287 and including Gunbarrel Estates, The Homestead and parts of Gunbarrel North subdivisions.

Clean Up Day cancelled

Clean Up Day scheduled for May 16 also is cancelled. “The stay-at-home order extends through April 30, and it could be extended into the summer,” said coordinator Tom Sesnic. “We know this is a popular event, and we hope to be able to reschedule this for summer or fall. It all depends on the coronavirus.”

July 4 parade

NCA board members agreed to adopt a wait-and-see attitude about holding Niwot’s July 4 parade. “We just don’t know what will happen that far out,” said parade co-coordinator Julie Breyer. “We have some time to make a final decision.”

The NCA board also agreed to donate $1,000 to the Left Hand Grange #9 in appreciation for what the Grange provides to Niwot and the NCA.
