NCA turns its attention to holiday events

After a busy fall coordinating the Niwot Veterans Banner project and taking part in the Great Pumpkin Party and Enchanted Evening, Niwot Community Association board members turned their attention to helping spread holiday cheer in Niwot.

At the Dec. 4 board meeting, NCA board members agreed to add to their decorations at the corner of Niwot Road and the Diagonal Highway. The area currently has some lighted wreaths and a holiday snowman courtesy of the NCA and the property owner, and board members agreed to spend up to $150 to purchase more decorations for next year.

"We just want to add to the town's wonderful holiday decorations put up by the Niwot Business Association," said NCA board member Pat Murphy. "This is an entrance to Niwot that can be decorated, so we should do it." Murphy and NCA board member Julie Breyer are heading up the decoration efforts.

Board members also agreed to treat all the shifts at Niwot's Mountain View Fire Rescue station to pizza. "These are our first responders and it's appropriate to thank them for the outstanding service they provide to this community," NCA President David Limbach said. The board authorized spending up to $200 on pizza for the fire station.

Cyclists in Niwot will find a little cheer in the spring when the NCA has its bicycle repair station installed in the Left Hand Grange Park. The repair station is already on hand, but installation has to wait for Boulder County to pour the concrete pad for the station. The work is expected to be completed in spring, according to Craig Rahenkamp, NCA trails and open space coordinator.

Maintenance of the underpass mural also will be done in the spring. The NCA has contacted the art department at Niwot High School to see if any students want to participate in the project.
