All Local, All The Time

Incorporation study nears completion

The informal committee preparing a report on the feasibility of incorporating Niwot is set to release its findings in the coming weeks, according to Mary Coonce, co-owner of Porchfront Homes and member of the study group, along with local residents and business owners Tony Santelli, Cotton Burden, Robert Discipio, Ron Bernal, Lane Landrith, and Anne Postle.

“The committee is very close to finalizing the data,” Coonce wrote in an email response to questions about the status of the study. “We want to be certain our data is solid prior to releasing it.”

The report will cover topics such as the potential logistics and costs of establishing a municipal government and what services the town would then assume from Boulder County. It also provides a look at other small incorporated towns and their experiences with the process.

Once the report is released, Coonce wrote that the group plans to start a public engagement process in order to educate the broader Niwot community on the potential benefits and/or drawbacks of municipal government.

“This will begin in early November, one HOA or group at a time. We will also launch a web site to enable individuals to give feedback and share their thoughts and suggestions.”
