Now in its 14th year, Flagstaff Academy, home of the Dragons, provides excellence every day for the 900+ community of preschool through 8th grade students. Since the school’s founding in 2005, Flagstaff Academy has built an exceptional educational environment which values developing the whole child through an award-winning Pre-K to 8th Grade Core Knowledge academic program. The curriculum is rich with experiential arts, hands-on science exploration, character education, and innovative technology integration.
Flagstaff Academy Preschool, celebrating its 10th year, has recently been awarded a Five Star Quality Rating by Colorado Shines, a quality rating and improvement system for all of Colorado’s early learning programs for ages birth through preschool. Flagstaff Academy’s Preschool five star rating designation is unique in both St. Vrain Valley and Boulder Valley school districts. Flagstaff Academy Preschool offers a high quality, part-time preschool program for ages 3-5 years old. The fee-based program incorporates the Core Knowledge Preschool Curriculum Sequence and Early Learning Developmental Guidelines. Children in the preschool program develop both socially and academically, meet new friends, resolve conflict, and discover that learning is fun through play-based activities.
This school year, Flagstaff Academy premiered its Elementary School SmartLab, a high-engagement curriculum and learning lab designed by Longmont-based Creative Learning Systems where students explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Media Arts) through applied technology and project-based learning. Flagstaff Academy’s SmartLab Curriculum offers a balanced and well-developed curriculum aligned to Next Generation Science, STEM, Media Arts, Colorado Academic Standards, and Core Knowledge. In addition to the actual lab, the SmartLab curriculum is available to all teachers and can be used in Science, Math, Social Studies, and other subjects to enhance lessons throughout the school.
Flagstaff Academy believes that our students learn more when they are aware of their environment and surroundings. Many of our staff have expertise as avid outdoor enthusiasts, expeditionary guides, and instructors. Outdoor education provides amazing opportunities for scientific exploration, confidence-building, and cultural bonding. Flagstaff Academy offers outdoor education opportunities through our partnership with Colorado State University, the Colorado Mountain Club for hiking, slacklining, and rock climbing field trips and experiences.
Each September, our Middle School students take an annual trip to Colorado State University Mountain Campus at Pingree Park and Sky Ranch. Students learn the principles of field ecology, stream ecology, astronomy, wilderness hiking and survival (including Leave No Trace principles) and engage in confidence and community building activities on Pingree Park's rope course.
Flagstaff Academy’s strong and connected “Dragon Culture” is possible due to the incredibly supportive Flagstaff Academy PTO, which sponsors a number of fun school community events including the Fall Festival, Dragon Dash Fun Run, Spring Gala, Wellness Committee activities, as well as restaurant fundraisers that help support both the school and local businesses. In addition, the school has a Dragon Volunteer presence of more than 800 parents, grandparents, alumni, and community members who help with all aspects to support the school.
Every day, for every child, Flagstaff Academy lives up to its mission to develop students who are equipped to be well-rounded, ethical leaders in the world community with a foundation based on science and technology.
