Battling the Emerald Ash Borer in Boulder County

Vicky Dorvee

Boulder County has put orange bands on ash trees reading “This tree is at risk for EAB and will be removed unless you adopt it now.”

Thus far only 10 percent of the thousands of right-of-way ash trees in unincorporated Boulder County have been adopted through the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) program, according to Michelle Ferguson, Boulder County’s EAB coordinator. Within Gunbarrel and Niwot there are nearly 200 of the trees that will be removed by the county beginning this fall if they have not been adopted.
