NCA looks to annual meeting next month

Niwot Community Association Board of Directors are gearing up for the organization’s annual meeting in April. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Left Hand Grange, 195 Second Avenue, Niwot.

All NCA members are invited to attend the meeting; those who are not members can join that evening as long as they live in the NCA’s service area, which includes the greater Niwot area and a small portion of Gunbarrel. The cost for an annual NCA membership is $30.

During the meeting, outgoing NCA President Dick Piland will outline the organization’s 2018 goals and objectives, discuss the upcoming Cleanup Day, candidate forum and July 4 parade plans and conduct elections for new officers and board members. In addition, NCA community volunteers will be honored for their time and service to Niwot.

The meeting will include an official from the Boulder County Land Use Department, who will address a variety of issues. NCA board members are currently drafting questions for the Land Use speaker.

“If any community members have questions for the Land Use representative, we encourage them to email those questions to us at [email protected], or contact any board member,” Piland said.

Candidate Forum

The NCA is organizing a candidates’ forum in May for those running for the Boulder County Board of County Commissioners. Current commissioner Cindy Domenico is term-limited and unable to run in November. Four Democrats have announced plans to run for the seat, along with a Green Party candidate. Two others also are considering a run.

Historic Niwot Fire House

NCA members agreed to donate $1,000 toward additional renovation costs for the historic Niwot Fire House. The small fire house, located next to the Left Hand Grange, doesn’t have lighting, needs to be made more secure and needs more “presence” on the street, according to Niwot Historical Society President Kathy Koehler. Those costs are estimated to total about $14,000, Koehler said.

The Niwot Local Improvement District Advisory Board has committed $5,000 and the Niwot Business Association has pledged $2,000, she told NCA members.

“The historic fire house benefits Niwot and adds to the charm of our community,” Piland said. “I think it is something the community should support.”

Membership

The NCA membership campaign is in full swing, reported membership chair Johnny Barrett. “We have sent email blasts, and we have postcards going out soon. We also will run ads in the Left Hand Valley Courier to remind people to join.”

Residents of the greater Niwot area and a small portion of Gunbarrel can join the NCA for $30. Dues can be paid on PayPal by following the link at Niwot.org/membership or by sending a check to NCA, P.O. Box 72, Niwot, CO 80544.

The NCA sponsors its annual Cleanup Day in May (which members can use for free), sponsors and organizes the July 4 parade, co-sponsors the annual National Night Out for Niwot, supports local organizations and provides a communication link between Niwot and Boulder County.
