All Local, All The Time

March 30 is deadline to apply for Boulder County Youth Corps jobs

Teens and adults can apply for summer jobs

Boulder County residents ages 14-17 have until 4:30 p.m. on March 30 to apply for summer jobs with the Boulder County Youth Corps. Boulder County is also hiring adults to be team leaders. Boulder County is especially in need of female applicants.

The Youth Corps will hire 160 teenagers to work 30 hours per week, Mon. through Thurs., from June 11 to Aug. 1, on a variety of community service projects such as trail construction and maintenance, historic preservation, forest thinning, construction and repair of fencing, landscaping and removal of Russian olive trees and noxious weeds. This year, Corps members will earn a starting wage of $10.20/hour, with the possibility of earning a $100 bonus at the end of the program based on merit and strong attendance.

Applicants can apply online. Applications can also be picked up at counseling offices in Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley schools; city and town personnel offices; most local recreation and youth centers and libraries; and the Boulder County Human Resources Department, 2025 14th St. (Boulder).

Team leaders must be at least 21 years old and the starting hourly wage is $17.67. Leaders will be employed from May 30 to Aug. 3 to work up to 40 hours per week, Mon. through Fri. A full list of qualifications is available at http://www.bouldercounty.org/youthcorp. These positions remain open until filled.

The Youth Corps offers one of the best first-job opportunities available for teens in Boulder County. Last summer teams converted half a mile of social trail behind Niwot High School into a four foot wide crusher fines trail, completed wildfire risk reduction treatments around historic structures on open space, designed and installed 2,400 square feet of landscaping at the Boulder County Recycling Center, built a flagstone patio at the Boulder County Fairgrounds, and refurbished the public areas at Bald Mountain.
