Youthful fidgeting raises firehouse improvement funds

Seven-year-old Edsel Bennett of Niwot stepped up for his community by initiating a creative fundraising event on behalf of Niwot’s Firehouse Museum forecourt restoration project. During March’s First Friday Art Walk, Bennett’s fidget spinner skills were on full display for a requested donations of five cents. Spectators at the downtown event happily paid more than that for the unique show and, as a result he raised $13 for the project.

The Niwot Historical Society committee organized to raise the needed funds to upgrade the building’s lighting, signage, and landscape in front of the vintage firehouse and welcomes more clever ideas from the community to help raise funds.

Committee member Felicia Santelli said, “Edsel showed willingness, creativity and perseverance. This shows that everyone can get involved – no one is too young or old.” Fundraising efforts are currently halfway to the goal of $15,000.

All donations are tax deductible and may be sent to NHS, PO Box 354, Niwot, CO 80544 or go to http://www.NiwotHistoricalSociety.org to make secure online donations.
