All Local, All The Time

Niwot Elementary School students of the month

The February nominees for students of the month are the members of the NES Robotics team. The team, consisting of third to fifth-graders, participated at a competition last Saturday at Flagstaff Elementary where they worked on individual design robots. The students on the Robotics team love building and competing with their robots.

“There’s nobody telling you what you can and can’t do,” said fifth-grader Riley Herchert.

“The biggest thing is watching the students grow individually and watching them learn to work in a team,” NES staff member and Robotics coach, Mr. MK said. “They are learning to make decisions together and weighing out how to best spend their time.”

Third-grader Leila Mahvan boasted that she is on the only all-girl team at NES. Gwyneth Atkinson said about building robots, “You think about what you can add and build so that your robot functions more effectively.”

The robotics team members are Emerson Waycasey, Charlie Bonn-Elchoness, Grady Whiteford, Michael Dapkus, Henry Bonn-Elchoness, Zander Burnett, Mathis Darmon, Chayton Feaux, Jack Flowerday, Riley Herchert, Luke Huddle-Jones, Andrew Hudgins, Jackson Hudgins, Hikaru Johnson, Leila Mahvan, Nadia Mahvan, Richard Ortiz-Mendez, Laine Prenni, Alexander Rutt, Garrett Sherrard and Elliott Wisecup.
