All Local, All The Time

Tulips and time sought for garden project

The Niwot Community Association is looking for anyone interested in volunteering time and/or tulip bulbs to help fill a space on Niwot Road between the Diagonal Highway and Franklin.

Pat Murphy, a member of the NCA, said that several people have already donated bulbs, but more are needed, and help is always appreciated.

“We took over that strip of land and we’re going to be planting flower beds,” Murphy said. “People can help however they see fit, we welcome all that we can get.”

The sections can be selected as a memorial to a loved one or in name of a business or organization.

“Some will be in memory of those who have passed away,” Murphy said. “We just want to let the community know that we are going to be doing this and anything they want to donate would be appreciated.”

NCA has been using funds from the annual Easter egg hunt to maintain the area, which in the past has been overgrown.

“It was always sitting there as a big weed patch,” Murphy said. “We’ve maintained it, but now we want to make it a nicer area.”

The site was originally fixed up as part of an Eagle Scout project, and many others have helped with maintenance over the years.

Now the NCA is hoping to make it a better sight for the community, visitors and passers-by.

“We’re just asking people around if they want to donate some tulips in memory of someone,” Murphy said. “And of course if they want to help plant or help in some other way, we welcome that too.”
