Niwot doubles get shut-out in Boulder

The Niwot boys tennis team lost its rescheduled match against the Boulder Panthers on Aug. 28, 4-3. Niwot swept the singles matches, with freshman Neil Irwin beating his Boulder opponent in the No. 1 match 6-0, 6-3.

The Niwot doubles pairs were in turn swept by the Panthers, but the Cougars’ No. 3 doubles pair, sophomore Anton Lavrouk and freshman Xavier Moy, made their Panthers’ opponents work just a little harder, going down in three sets 3-6, 7-5, 6-7.

Doubles — 1. Panthers No. 1 def. Sam Keronen & Riley Mulshine 4-6,6-3, 6-3; 2. Panthers No. 2 def. Patrick Xiao & Sam Bickham 6-4, 6-0; 3. Panthers No. 2 def. Anton Lavrouk & Xavier Moy; 4. Panthers No. 4 def. Jon Lee & Peter Lee 6-2, 6-2.

Niwot 7, Centaurus 0

The Cougars bounced back the next day at Centaurus, winning all but seven sets in their seven matches against the Warriors.

Due to surface conditions of the courts at Niwot High, the Cougars’ home matches will be played in Longmont or, if possible, on the opponent’s home court. On Sep. 5, Niwot hosted Northridge at Affolter Park, and will host Silver Creek at Longmont Recreation Center on Sep. 7.
