Niwot’s Skye Messinger launches a base hit in early season action.

Dylan Hollingsworth, former Niwot High School football coach, was given a one-year deferred sentence March 23, 2017, on misdemeanor charges in a plea bargain approved by the Boulder County Court.

Hollingsworth was accused of choking a 17-year-old student and kneeing him in the groin on Oct. 27, 2016, during a PE class, resulting in charges of second- and third-degree assault. As part of the plea agreement, those charges were dismissed and Hollingsworth entered a plea of guilty to misdemeanor harassment and criminal mischief charges.

Conditions of the deferred sentence include completion of an anger management evaluation and treatment, and 100 hours of community service, according to Catherine Olguin of the Boulder County District Attorney’s office.

Hollingsworth will be supervised by the probation department during the next 12 months, and if he complies with all conditions and no new charges are filed, he will be allowed to withdraw his guilty plea and all charges will be dismissed.

Hollingsworth’s positions as girls golf coach and football coach at Niwot High School have been filled.
