All Local, All The Time

Boulder Valley Lacrosse establishes memorial scholarship program

The Boulder Valley Lacrosse Association (BVL), one of the largest youth lacrosse programs in Colorado, has announced the formation of The Boulder Valley Lacrosse Scholarship in memory of former Boulder resident and lifelong lacrosse player and ambassador, Stephen C. Muir.

The BVL Scholarship was established to honor the service, commitment and value that young adults have given to the local lacrosse community. BVL will award $2,000 in scholarships that may be used at any accredited institution of learning, including schools with 4-year, 2-year, trade or vocational degree programs.

The scholarships are available to all currently enrolled high school seniors, male or female, who have “given back” to the game of lacrosse in ways that have helped grow the sport or enhanced the playing experience for others.

“A primary goal of the BVL Scholarship is to celebrate and honor the character, integrity, and love for the sport of lacrosse that Steve Muir exhibited throughout his life,” BVL President JP O'Brien said. “In addition to his exceptional skill and dominance as a high school All-American and NCAA Division I national champion, Steve embodied all that is good about competitive sports."

The selection committee will review each application with a combination of factors in mind, including merit, leadership and overall impact on the lacrosse community. All applications must be submitted no later than May 18, 2016. Scholarship winners will be notified no later than May 30, 2016.

A letter of recommendation from a coach, a player or other lacrosse community member is also required. Letters should be emailed to BVL Executive Director Andrew Davies, at [email protected].
