All Local, All The Time

Valentine's Day For Him

Men across the country will be spending the next few days scrambling to get last-minute gifts for their sweethearts.

But what about them? Most guys typically don’t care about Valentine’s Day other than making sure they don’t forget to get their significant other jewelry, heart-shaped chocolates and roses.

So, for the ladies, here are some good gift ideas to get your man on Valentine’s Day.

Through his stomach

We’ve all heard the adage and that the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, and we all love pizza.

Lefty’s Gourmet Pizza in Niwot would be a good stop for dinner. If you already have plans, get him a gift certificate (they even have coupons on their website).

Bogey’s Eatery & Spirits also has a big menu, and would make for a good breakfast or lunch. They have 16 beers on tap, a big wine selection and other spirits.

A gift certificate to his favorite restaurant would work as well, he can use it to take you out for a special night some other time or go get some wings with his friends.

Looking good, feeling good

Though we usually don’t like to admit, we want to look good too.

If he is the clean-shaven type, think about a shave set.

Boulder and Denver are home to several specialty shaving shops. Look for a nice set with a brush, apothecary mug, shave soap and a good razor.

You can also find a huge amount of sets online with a quick search. Make sure and get one-day shipping so it arrives on time.

He’ll look sharp, and when a man looks sharp, you won’t be embarrassed to take him out in public.

If your significant other stays stubbly, get him a good set of clippers. They’re relatively inexpensive, and last for a long time.

Most men who use these clippers keep them as long as possible, so there’s a good chance his is old and well-worn.

Now to the bearded and mustachioed men. A good beard oil and/or mustache wax does numbers for the skin and hair.

There are some great brands out there (most are only available online) include the Beard Bourbon line of products by Men on the Make. Local gift shops will likely have some as well.

Also under this category would be attire. Nice watches (wood is unique and classy), cuff links and tie pins are in style. A new suit jacket could be a good gift as well.

Out and about

If your significant other is like me, he has a pair of boots or a tool or something he uses all the time that is on it’s last leg.

He’s probably mentioned it to you several times. Not in the sense that it needs replaced, but that it’s about to go out. He doesn’t want to buy new if it still works.

Get it for him, he’ll recognize that you’ve been paying attention.

Maybe it’s new hiking boots, ski poles or golf gloves. Maybe he has even been eyeballing a new driver.

It’s important to note that if you don’t know the exact one, go for the gift certificate and let him know it’s to get those new boots.

From the heart

This one is basically free, and will go a long ways to making him happy.

Make a coupon booklet. Some ideas include back rubs, a free night out with his friends or getting out of an item on his “honey-do” list.

Be creative with this one, but you have to make sure and honor the coupons when he cashes them in.

You ladies know us better than we know ourselves, and you don’t have to spend a whole lot of money by being creative. Men will appreciate the sentiment.

At the end of the day, the holiday is about love. Don’t forget that simply being together is a gift in itself, and remember that a holiday is not required to treat each other with love and spend time together.
