  • February book review - 'Food, Festival and Religion'

    Hannah Stewart|Feb 23, 2022

Partnering with Inkberry Books for these monthly reviews is always a pleasure, because I'm exposed to authors and topics I wouldn't usually choose for myself. This was certainly the case with Francesca Howell's book, "Food, Festival and Religion" (FFR). The book explores how some northern Italian communities experience renewal through various customs concerning food, costumes and other traditions. This tome is certainly intended for a specific audience, yet it may have some tidbits that will...

  • New meditation center coming to Niwot

    Katrina Stroud|Feb 23, 2022

Kristian Dura is the future owner of a meditation/community center in Cottonwood Square. The name of her business is Una Vida, which translates to “one life” in Spanish. Dura came up with the name when she was working at a retreat center in Argentina. While she was living there, her coworkers would repeat their mantra: “your life, my life, one life.” Meaning, we all share the same human spirit no matter who we are or what background we come from. And so, Dura wanted to create a center (similar to the one in Argentina) where Front Range natives...

  • Buzzing past the competition

    Hannah Stewart|Feb 23, 2022

A group of school children sits or stands at the front of the class, one apart from the rest. One, or perhaps a few adults sit at a table facing the children with a crowd of parents and students behind them. It's the spelling bee. Since at least 2018, Sunset Middle School has hosted the event with varying levels of participation, this year, there was a record number of 18 participants and according to co-hosters Tanya Gaurmer (language) and Katie Silverberg (special education), it was "a huge...

  • There's nothing like a good Plan B

    Mary Wolbach Lopert|Feb 23, 2022

^%$# happens. We all know it, and a good Plan B is the best defense. Say your child wants to have an outdoor swim birthday party – in July. You’d still better have a back up plan, because while it won’t snow in the Front Range, you must consider the chances of hail and lightning with the accompanying hurricane force winds and tornado warnings. Planning a wedding and you think you have the vendors all lined up? You’d be advised to have a Plan B for that too, because you never know when the florist might wig out and end up living in a van, down b...
