Hold it...the restrooms will open soon

When the Courier first reported in March on the groundbreaking for new restrooms at Left Hand Valley Grange Park, completion was projected to be mid-June. A month past the anticipated grand opening of the toilets and an orange cautionary mesh across of the otherwise fine-looking building signals that it's not quite time for the doors to fling open.

Brent Wheeler, Boulder County Recreation and Facilities Project Coordinator, who is responsible for overseeing the restroom installation, said, "Unfortunately we are still waiting on Xcel to turn on the power."

Wheeler said Xcel Energy came out last week to turn on power to the building, but instead left a note saying the property does not have a customer account. It's a procedural task, but as a result the switch will not be flipped to get electricity flowing until an account is created.

"[I'm] not sure why they didn't bring that up months ago when the request was submitted," Wheeler said.

The application was submitted last week and now it's just a matter of waiting.

"Regarding a timeframe for restroom completion, it is frustrating that we are totally at the whims of Xcel, and they don't seem to be very prompt in addressing our simple need to turn on the power," Wheeler wrote. "Once they turn on the power, we get our final building inspection (within a few days), and if [there are] no issues, we open the facility. If there are issues with the permit (not anticipated), we will need whatever time is needed to address them. My hope is in the coming week or two, but I don't have any control over Xcel and when they do things."
