All Local, All The Time

Souperb fundraiser on tap for Niwot United Methodist Church

Dig out that oversized spoon and put on your elastic-waist pants for the 23rd annual Soup, Soup and More community dinner and fundraiser, coming up on Saturday, March 2 at Niwot United Methodist Church, located at 7405 Lookout Road in Gunbarrel.

Event organizer Janet Gates said this year’s event will be familiar to repeat visitors. Doors open at 4 p.m., and there will be a wide selection of soups, chilis, stews, and chowders available, as well as bread, salad, desserts and drinks, served in an “all-you-can-eat” buffet.

“The soups are homemade, absolutely,” she said. “Some of the favorites are ginger-carrot, chili and chicken tortilla soup.”

Admission to the dinner is free, and donations are welcome. Proceeds from the 2019 event are earmarked for Boulder Attention Homes, an organization that assists local youth facing homelessness. Gates said their funds will help furnish BAH’s new 40-unit apartment complex, currently under construction at 1440 Pine Street in Boulder.

“We try to donate the proceeds to different organizations each year,” she said. “We’ve been involved with Attention Homes in different ways over the years.”

Gates said the church decided to donate to the youth shelter this year after a request from Niwot United Methodist Women. From there, the effort grew, and now includes other members of the Gunbarrel Faith Partnership. Collectively, their goal is to raise $5,000 for BAH.

“It’s one time to furnish the apartments but it’s also ongoing for the maintenance and the care needs of those 40 units,” she said.

Gates and other members of NUMC will be at Let’s Wine About Winter with an enticing sample of what to expect at Soup, Soup and More. Stop by their table in the Niwot Emporium for a tasty sneak preview. For more information about the event on March 2, visit http://www.niwotumc.org.
