Manager with LegalShield

I am a former teacher, the mother of two BVSD graduates, and a social worker.

I was the Director of Education and Prevention at Blue Sky Bridge and created a sexual abuse prevention program, which I have been teaching throughout the county since 1999.

Are you currently or have you been on the BVSD board in the past?

No

How long have you lived in the district?

31 years

Do you currently have children attending school in the district (if yes, list ages please - names not necessary)?

No

Why are you running for the BVSD board?

I’m running for school board because our district needs leadership to help bridge the divide happening on the board. I believe every neighborhood should have a great public school and every child should have opportunities to succeed.

What makes you qualified for this position?

For 19 years, when my children were in school, I was very involved in BVSD both at the school level and at the district level. I co-chaired the School Improvement Team at Fireside Elementary and the PTO at Monarch K-8. I served on the Safe Schools Coalition advocating for LGBTQ students and staff and on the committee that wrote the health curriculum. I was part of the Twenty-first Century Graduate Committee, and served on the School Age Care Advisory Board.

What goals do you have for the district and/or what would you like to see change?

Hire the right superintendent to lead our district.

Address the achievement gap.

Add pre-schools and full day kindergarten to all schools.

Secure more funding from the state.

Heal the rift resulting from the firing of Dr. Messinger.

Please state anything else you would like voters to know

Transparency is crucial in everything the district does. Our taxpayers are very generous and they deserve to know exactly what the district and board does.
