All Local, All The Time

Let's wine about winter

Tired of the snow and cold and short winter days? Well, it’s time to stop whining about it, and instead start wining about it. This February, take the opportunity to turn those wintertime frowns upside-down at “Let’s Wine About Winter in Niwot.”

This will be the third edition of the local annual event, which has grown in popularity each year.

“We’ve had horrible weather and it was a blast, we’ve had beautiful weather and it was a blast,” said co-organizer Anne Postle, who owns Osmosis Gallery at 290 2nd Ave. in downtown Niwot.

The event’s first year coincided with a major snowstorm, which served as complementary charm rather than as a deterrent. Event-attenders asked if “we could arrange to have that same weather again the next year,” laughed Postle.

The event is a fundraiser for the Niwot Cultural Arts Association, and proceeds this year will go to benefit Niwot Children’s Park and Whistle Stop Park.

Over 28 local businesses are participating, including some without a retail storefront who just want to join in the fun. A ticket purchase of $25 gets you a wristband and collectible mug, along with an event map and membership in the club.

Stop in at any of the participating locations, show them your wristband and present your mug, and you’ll be served with wine, beer and special appetizers and snacks.

The ticket package also includes a $10 coupon, good at any of the participating locations along the route, which includes businesses along 2nd Ave. in downtown Niwot as well as in Cottonwood Square.

The idea behind “Let’s Wine About Winter in Niwot” comes from far-away Libertyville, IL, residence of the daughter of event co-organizer Michelle Henzel, who is the office manager at Osmosis Gallery.

Henzel’s daughter attended a similar event in Libertyville, and recognized it as being right in her mother and Postle’s collective wheelhouse. Postle describes the event as a good excuse to get out of the house and socialize and have some fun on a winter Saturday afternoon, along with being “a different way to show people some of the great businesses we have in Niwot.”

There are 200 tickets available in total, which can be reserved online at eventbrite.com or purchased directly from Osmosis Gallery. “Let’s Wine About Winter in Niwot” is on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 1-5 pm.
