Mountain View Fire Rescue saying thanks to troops

The Mountain View Fire Rescue is launching a new program this year to thank veterans and deployed soldiers from the district who will not be able to make it home this holiday season.

They are currently collecting names to be placed on a banner that will be on their engines for all holiday parades.

Amy Tallent, one of the organizers of the new program, said that the idea came about recently after a discussion about troops who won’t be able to be with their families.

“Mountain View has had a few programs in the past where we really like to recognize the troops and veterans that live in our community,” Tallent said. “This year we wanted to do something a bit different.

“We thought that there are a lot of people who can’t make it home by Christmas time. So we got together and thought of ways to honor them, and the banner idea came up.”

November 15 is the deadline to get all of the names to Omni Promotional in Louisville, who will be making the banner.

Tallent does not have anyone deployed in her immediate family, but knows plenty of people that do.

“There are a lot of families in our district who not only have people overseas, they need to be recognized as well,” Tallent said.

Overall, she said that the district thinks this is a good way to honor and support troops, veterans and their families this holiday season.

“We’re really excited about it,” Tallent said. “Any help we can get from the community would be really great. We’d like to get as many names as possible, so we appreciate the community getting in touch with us.”
