All Local, All The Time

No NCA candidate forum

The Niwot Community Association (NCA) has been stymied in its efforts to host a debate among Boulder County Commissioner candidates.

Schedules for the candidates were already filled, Kim Hawksworth, NCA events chairperson, explained.

“We found a few dates that we hoped would fit into the candidates’ schedules and the Left Hand Grange’s open dates, but as we contacted the incumbents and the challengers we heard that those dates were already booked,” Hawksworth said. “The alternate dates also had conflicts. So the NCA board decided to concentrate our efforts on finding other forums for our membership to attend.”

In District 1, Republican Kevin Sipple of Eldorado Springs is running against incumbent Democrat Elise Jones of Boulder. District 2 Democrat incumbent Deb Gardner of Longmont is being challenged by Republican Paul Danish of Longmont. Commissioners are elected by all Boulder County voters but represent districts while serving on the board.

October 8 forum

The League of Women Voters of Boulder County, in partnership with the Latino Task Force, is hosting a candidate forum from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Barrio E’ Centro cultural center, 471 Main St., Longmont. The forum will be moderated by leaders in the Latino community, according to the League of Women Voters of Boulder County.

The forum will feature the County Commissioner candidates, along with candidates for Colorado Senate District 17, Colorado House District 11 and Boulder County District Attorney. Candidates will have a chance to speak and then respond to questions from the audience.

Video available online

The League also has a video available on its website of the Sept. 10 Boulder County Commissioners forum it hosted. To watch that video, go to http://lwvbc.org/2016election.html then scroll down to the candidate video forums and click on the link.
