Was lost, but has been found

When the concert by area favorite Chris Daniels and the Kings ended July 28, people leaving noticed two Boulder County Sheriff’s deputies in front of the Niwot post office talking to two distraught women.

The women told the officers, who provide security for the concerts, that the driver had locked her purse in her car, and placed the keys on top of a tire so she wouldn’t have to carry them into the concert. When the women walked out of the concert, they discovered the car was gone.

Deputy Bill Crist took down the information, noted that it appeared to be a crime of opportunity, and hoped that the thief was only out for a joyride.

Concert managers, who post lost and found items on the Rock & Rails Facebook page, reported that a car was lost, along with a wallet and a cellphone, but no one turned in the missing vehicle.

At the following week’s concert, one of the deputies who had worked the previous week was asked if the stolen car had been recovered.

He reported that the “stolen” car had actually been parked about four blocks away, and that the owner had apparently forgotten where she had parked that night. He did note the dangers of leaving keys on top of a tire, but thankfully, reported that the car was not actually stolen.
