Niwot beats Poudre before falling to Mullen, Golden

Competing on their home field, the Niwot Legion B baseball team earned a 12-2 win against Poudre on Tuesday, June 28.

Niwot was already off to a good start at the bottom of the second inning with a 4-0 lead, but it was the fifth inning that secured their win. Niwot scored in the fifth on several fielder’s choices, passed balls, and errors, as well as two RBI singles by Colton Goldfarb and Jake Sims.

On the mound, Quinn Williamson proved to be a valuable asset to the team. Poudre only managed two hits off of Williamson, with one earned run, while he struck out five during his five innings of pitching.

After their explosive win against Poudre, Niwot fell to both Mullen and Golden on Thursday, June 30.

The away game against Mullen was a slow, plodding win for Mullen with only one run made by the end of the fourth inning. Mullen won the game in seven innings with a final score of 4-0.

Niwot’s Caleb Martinez struggled on the mound, where he lasted only five innings and allowed two of the game’s four runs.

The game was ultimately won by Mullen’s pitcher, #10, who pitched seven shutout innings, allowing no earned runs. He walked two, struck out two, and gave up three hits.

On the same day, Niwot Legion B lost to Golden, 8-3, in seven innings.

Despite the loss, Niwot’s Benn Goss and Goldfarb worked to minimize the team’s deficit. Goldfarb went 2-3 by singling in the second and fourth innings. On the mound, Goss allowed no earned runs in nearly two innings of work and struck out one.

However, the Golden team proved too skilled for pitcher Joey DesEnfantes. In just over five innings, he allowed eight runs and struck out none.

The Niwot Legion B team made a small comeback in the last three innings, earning three runs to Golden’s two. However, the final score still came out in Golden’s favor, at 8-3.

Niwot Legion B is looking forward to several games against Front Range Baptist, Colorado Khaos, Pomona and Strasburg this upcoming week, with the games against Pomona and Strasburg taking place at Niwot High School’s baseball fields.
