Postmaster Eva Haddon balances on the mailbag pole as she slips rings attached to the top and bottom of the bag over two hinged bars. When the train passed slowly by, the bag was snagged either by a pole mounted on the railway post office car or by an agent who pulled down on the bag to release it.
