Over the course of a season, not many other events mean more to the Niwot High School wrestling program than the Gary Daum Classic. The annual wrestling tournament, previously known as the Boulder Valley Invitational, returns to Niwot High on Saturday, Jan. 7 for the 10th time running under its current title, a name given in honor of longtime Cougar head coach Gary Daum, who passed away in 2012 following a battle with cancer. Chuck Rodgers and his fantastic Christmas light display are still going strong at 5980 79th Street. "The display will be up until Epiphany, Friday, January 6th," Rodgers said. One of the most beautiful things about the holiday season is that it is the season of giving. One prominent local business at the forefront of promoting holiday giving is the Niwot Market, which has always conducted winter charity drives and other fundraising events throughout the year. Niwot High School boys basketball's final game of 2022 against local rival, the Longmont High School Trojans, resulted in Niwot's 50-33 loss. The loss compliments a theme of defensive success, but a lack of offensive production which has cost the Cougars long-term. For the first time since breaking his ankle as a sophomore, Alexander Long finally feels like a "complete basketball player" midway through his senior season at Niwot High School. Sarah Cioni didn't set out to be a florist - she wanted to be a shopkeeper. She founded The Painted Primrose Floral Studio in 2001 and eventually began selling flower arrangements out of the Niwot Market. Overall, it was a mixed bag of results for the Niwot High School wrestling team at the Keith Kilker Memorial boys wrestling event held from Dec.16-17 in Keenesburg. The Cougars left Weld Central High School 3-4 in duals with junior Gavin Burrage going a perfect 8-0 in the 190-pound class and sophomore Ryder Evans finishing 6-1 at 126 pounds.
