By Ron Goodman A veil of sadness fell over
the Niwot community late last year when our very own Steele’s Market closed.
But the veil will be lifted and our joy rekindled in March because the
Market is Back.
Seth Steele, Bert’s son, and Larry Jordan will manage the produce section. They will feature about 30 types of organically grown fruits and vegetables. Jordan has more than 35 years of experience managing retail produce departments. Tarey Milker, another Steele’s employee, will be co-manager and also head up the meat and fish department. “We will feature Maverick, Redbird poultry and Boulder Sausages,” Milker said. “Custom cuts and sizes, as well as fresh fish will be available.” Milker was with Steele’s for two years and worked for Nash-Finch, a wholesaler, for eight years before that. His father ran the meat department for Steele’s in Niwot until it closed. “I want to open things up, make it easier for our customers to find things.” Bert Steele explained as we walked through the relocated shelving aisles. “The Allegro Coffee will be near an expanded seating area in the store,” Steele continued as we walked, “and the bread; we will have Moe’s Bagels, Breadworks and Rudy’s.” The frozen foods will remain along the back wall. “But we are adding a line of Rice Dream non-dairy frozen deserts,” said Steele. “We spent a lot of time selecting products and suppliers to please our customers,” Steele said, “and there will be values in the store too. We will be competitive with local supermarkets. Tell your readers to ask if they don’t see what they want. We want to be the store that our customers want it to be.” Photo by Ron Goodman Photograph of Steele’s Market with the new name superimposed on the canopy. |
