Heatherwood Elementary Students Excel
At Annual Learning and Science Fair

Each year Heatherwood has a special evening to salute its highly talented students with its annual Science and Learning Fair.

The fair is a two part event. The Learning Fair allows students to create projects in areas such as art, animals and history, with children working on individual projects, in small groups or as a class. Fifth graders, for example, made mobiles of "Birds of Prey."

Other students performed gymnastics routines or played an instrument. Whatever the subject, the event was a celebration of achievement.

The second part of the evening featured the presentation of the students’ Science Fair projects. Since everyone is eligible to participate, there were over 60 entries.
On Wednesday, Feb. 16, each participant was interviewed by a panel of judges. From those entries, 15 projects were selected for presentation at the District Science Fair at Crossroads Mall on Saturday, Feb. 26.

Those selected were Sara Nading, Brooke Daley, Adam Sammakia, Derek and Alyssa Lawson, Brent Johnson, David Walker, Aaron Hartman, Michael Daley, Steven Mangold, Tim Wright, Daniel Lopez, Nicky Martin, Claire & Emily McNellan and Jordan Wilsted, and third grade Girl Scout Troop 1433.

According to Principal Larry Orobona, "All the students did a fine job and earned honorable mention. It was very difficult to make the decision of which projects go on to the district fair."

The family dinner once again was provided by Quizno’s in Gunbarrel. Quizno’s supports the school by supplying the box meals at a price that enables the school to make a profit for the PTO.

Laurie Aronson arranged for all the food, and Betsy Patterson recruited staff and parents as servers. A big thank you to all the teachers who helped with setting and cleaning up the cafeteria.

Heatherwood is proud of all the students who participated in this year’s fair.
