Out and About Town

Bloom Hair Studio

I am beginning to get the idea that my long hair is out of style in Niwot. On April 28, a fourth hair salon opened in historic downtown Niwot.

Bloom Hair Studio is located in the Lockwood Building, on the northwest corner of Franklin Street and Second Avenue in Old Town.  The owners, Sara Reidy and Ann Black have been clipping tresses in New York City and at Pompadour in Boulder for many years.

“We are happy to be here,” Sara commented. “We hope to bring fun and trendy styling to our clients.”
I innocently asked what was currently “trendy” in hair cutting?  “Wispy,” was the reply. “Texturized, removing bulk, allowing movement to the hair cut, unusual colors and highlighting,” she continued.  “And,” Sara noted, “we also cut men’s hair.”  It was a short interview.

But even if  - like me - you don’t need a haircut,  you should drop in and say hello to these two talented stylists.  You can call for an appointment at 303-652-2282.

George Stroh-New NCA President

Although George Stroh spent 30 years in the U.S. Army, nine of them in Germany, he has strong ties to Colorado.  His grandparents were Colorado natives, and he graduated from Denver South High School and Colorado State University in Fort Collins.  In June 1999 he retired from the military and moved to Niwot.

“I wanted to get involved in the community, get to know people in the Cove.” He
was appointed the representative for area 3 of the Niwot Community Association (NCA) Board several years ago.  He was elected to the position of president in February 2001.
"My goals,” he explained,  “are to foster cooperation among all of the local community organizations, Niwot Youth Sports, the Optimists and so forth.  We have very diverse groups in town. All of their goals don’t coincide. I want to increase openness to keep citizens informed.”  He reminded me that the NCA was the “point of contact for various service agencies.”

The NCA recently completed a blood drive, collecting 31 pints.  “Colorado is very short (on donated blood),” George said. “And Rosemary Bruce did a great job with the drive.”

Stroh feels that the boundaries of the community service area should be expanded. Presently it extends only to the areas contiguous to Old Town Niwot.
On the subject of phone and internet service, Stroh said, “I am working with Qwest on reducing the size of the building proposed for the existing Niwot Road location.  It looks like A T & T will provide us with fiber optic and broadband service.”

He concluded his list of goals by saying,  “I want to increase membership and have fun doing it, and don’t forget Nostalgia Days on August 25!”
