NCA Begins Planning For Nostalgia Days

By Ron Goodman

The new Niwot Community Association (NCA) board is off and running with a good start on plans for Niwot’s’ annual Nostalgia Days event on Saturday August, 28. According to NCA President Jerry Sinor, "The August date is early but it will not conflict with the Labor Day holiday as some people felt it did last year."

Who Is Running The Show?

The driving force behind the planning effort is Niwot resident Stephanie M. Ravensdale, the director of communications for the NCA. Stephanie has had 17 years experience in planning events. She was born and raised in England and moved to the states three years ago. She is presently employed by SCC Communications Corporation as their Events and Trade Show Manager.

What’s Planned So Far?

"We hope to begin with a fun run," Stephanie said. "Just a jog around Niwot. Then everyone can stop at the auction house and enjoy a pancake breakfast, sponsored by the Niwot Optimist Club." There will be a parade, games for younger children and a petting zoo.
"We are looking for more corporate sponsors," She continued. "I want the evening to be more like a show, varied music, perhaps several bands. We are thinking about a jazz band on Main Street." (The Freddi-Henchi Band will not return this year.)
Food vendors will be limited to Niwot businesses. There will be a special event in the Grange Hall, run by Rosemary Bruce.
Some Background
"We are not looking at this as a fund raiser," Sinor commented. "The event will build on the past and make it stronger for the future. More local people should be involved in Nostalgia Days events."
"This is a very important event," Stephanie chimed in. "I wanted to do it to meet more of my neighbors, to bring people together. I love living in Niwot. it’s a wonderful place."
Sinor explained that the NCA is funded solely from member dues. Membership has grown to over 300 under the new board.
If enough corporate funds are raised, the NCA will not charge admission.

The parade will include a Grand Marshall. Nominations are being solicited.
