Old Fashioned Holiday Fun in Niwot

By Selene Hall

Local shopkeepers transformed Niwot with Holiday Magic during the month of December.  Memorable moments marked the holiday season in Niwot.

Santa arriving on the Burlington-Northern train on Saturday, Dec. 8th was the highlight of the festivities.  Santa and Mrs. Claus, who were greeted by hundreds of fans, boarded the Niwot Fire Engine #10 and led the parade down Second Avenue through Niwot and around Cottonwood Square.  High stepping in the parade were neighborhood groups, the Niwot High School Marching Band, llamas, Boulder County Sheriff and entourage, bagpipers, Boulder County Rodeo Queen, Niwot United Methodist Church with a live nativity scene for their float and of course, the Left Hand Valley Courier float.

The day was filled with fun and festivities for holiday revelers and shoppers.  The Grange served hot dogs and chili, Bongo the clown provided free balloon creations, the Niwot Nifties 4-H Club provided face painting and the young ones waited their turn to ride the colorful mini-train.  Hayrides and pony rides provided a “country” flavor to the day.  Carolers entertained, while little children climbed on Santa’s lap to share their wishes for Christmas Day.

Fridays and Saturdays in Historic Downtown and Cottonwood Square provided unique treats such as cups of Lobster Bisque soup to warm you, free gift wrapping, complimentary Eggnog, ornament painting, carriage rides and art shows.

Special thanks go out to the shopkeepers of Niwot for creating a friendly, fun and family-oriented holiday experience.  Not only was there great food and entertainment, but some of the finest and most unique shopping in the county.
