Animal Emergency Center Opens

By Cindy Komperda

If you have driven down south Main Street in Longmont recently, you may have noticed the new Animal Emergency Center at 230 S. Main Street, across from McDonald’s.

This state-of-the-art center is owned and operated by Dr. Scott Reed of Highlands Ranch and Dr. Jon Geller of Ft. Collins. Both veterinarians are graduates of Colorado State University. Dr. Lisa Carroll, a graduate of Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, has also joined the practice.

The Animal Emergency Center is open from Friday nights at 6 p.m. through Monday morning at 8 a.m. and staffed with emergency and critical care veterinarians and technicians. It is also open 24 hours on holidays

The center has two private examination rooms that lead into a large treatment area. The open layout enables the staff to treat and continuously monitor the progress of all sick animals.

To the left of the main treatment area is a surgical room equipped for procedures such as emergency c-sections, removal of foreign substances and repair of twisted stomachs, just to name a few.

The clinic also has a fully equipped laboratory. Results from a complete blood count (CBC), as well as tests for antifreeze or rat poisoning can be obtained in as little as 15 minutes. The advanced x-ray unit provides a quick and accurate diagnosis of many life-threatening conditions within three minutes.

The staff highly recommends that clients call the center at 303-678-8844 before arrival. This call enables the emergency clinician to provide helpful first aide advice and directions to the clinic.

The cost of an examination is $55 and most major credit cards are accepted. Whether you have a dog, cat, rabbit, ferret, reptile, bird, or potbelly pig, this clinic can accommodate your pet’s emergency needs.
