Valentine’s Day For The Very Young
Miss Catherine’s Creative Learning Centers

Remember all the fun of making Valentine boxes?  Suddenly, an old shoebox or tissue box could be magically transformed into a snowy-white mailbox, just waiting for those sweet cards from all your classmates.  That tradition is being carried on at Miss Catherine’s Creative Learning Center.

According the center’s owner, Catherine Médal, “We believe that children learn best with the arts and music.”  Throughout the year, the children are exposed to various types of media in both art and music.  Besides cultural and classical music, Miss Catherine, as she is called, always focuses on hands-on activities.

The children always make Valentine’s cards for their parents and the special people in their lives.  Last year we had rice cakes and the children got to spread pink cream cheese and put raisins on it, like a face.  We try to be nutritionally minded.  The children learn Valentine songs.  Some classes will make Valentine chains to put across the room.  Others will make Valentine puppets.”

What should be especially fun is working with the kindergartners.  “This year we have a full time kindergarten program,” she stated.  “The kindergartners will have a special cooking project making Valentine cookies.  The kindergartners do a cooking project every week.”  These projects, along with Valentine bingo and counting games, make learning fun, especially if you can share it with that special friend.

Miss Catherine’s Creative Learning Center is located at 6525 Gunpark Rd. in the Gunbarrel Shopping Center.  The center’s is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mon. through Fri.  For more information call 303-530-1820 or email at Mmisscaterine@aol.com.
