By Bruce Warren

Registration for Niwot Youth Sports baseball and softball programs is just around the corner.  NYS President Bob Topping reports that signups will be held Saturday, Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon  and on Sunday, Feb 24 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Niwot High School.

The program is open to all baseball players ages 5 through 14 and all girls softball players ages 5 through 18 who live in the Niwot, Gunbarrel or South Longmont area.

NYS offers both a recreational and a competitive program for area youth.  Competitive coaches will be on hand to answer questions.

The registration fee is $60 for T-Ball players and $90 for all others.  The family maximum is $180.  A $10 late fee is charged after March 5th.

Fees cover the cost of uniforms, insurance, equipment, field maintenance and field construction.  Scholarships re available from area businesses and donors for any player in need of assistance.  Scholarship requests should be directed to Mark Lamach at 303-652-3216.

Players do not need to attend registration, but a parent or guardian must be present.  Player evaluations are held in March, with practices starting in early April.  Games generally run from May through mid-July, except for T-ball, which ends in late June.

Volunteers are needed to coach and help administer the programs.  Call Mark Lamach for baseball information (303-652-3216) and Julie Breyer (303-652-2002) or Steve Wolfe (303-684-9147) for softball information.
