Girls Basketball: Niwot holds opponent to 21 points at the Pepsi Center

The Niwot girls basketball team handed the Skyview Wolverines their first loss of the season, in a low scoring affair at the Pepsi Center on the Monday before Christmas. Skyview, which averaged 55 points through its first six games , managed just seven points in the first half, while the Cougars scored 18 for the second game in a row. The Wolverines doubled their offensive output in the second half, but it would not be enough to overcome the lopsided start, and Niwot went on to win 34-21.

Sophomore center Zoe Gonzales and junior Mary Gillett led the Cougars in scoring on the day, with eight points apiece. Junior Sophie Grant had six, as did her junior teammate Rosie Setter. Senior YY Chen (4) and junior Allie Colvin (2) combined for the rest of the team’s points.

Though victorious, the team continued to underperform offensively. For the second consecutive game, Niwot scored less than thirty-five total points. The Cougars also continued to have trouble from the free-throw line, going just 2-for-7. It was also their first game with no three-pointers.

The Cougars took a 3-3 record into the break, and will begin their conference schedule against Greeley Central (3-4) at home on January 3.
