Poignant beauty at the Niwot Cemetery

Each year on Memorial Day weekend, members of the Niwot Cemetery Board place an American flag at the grave site of those who have served our country. After a week of snow, rain and unseasonably cold weather, the appearance of the sun and the warmth of the air were perfectly timed for the tradition that has been carried on for decades to honor veterans who have passed on.

In the temperate breeze, the high flying flag in the center of the gently sloping graveyard flapped almost in slow motion. The freshly mowed historic cemetery with patches of irises in full bloom and fragrant lilac bushes made for a touching scene as members of the board located the headstones of 16 servicemen who served in every era, and as far back as the Civil War.
