Local businesses make changes

HMK Jewelers moves

HMK and Mountain Maille Jewelry Studio to Franklin Street, across from Colterra restaurant, one year ago. The jewelry stores recently made another move to Cottonwood Square, relocating right next to the Garden Gate Cafe.

Owners Dennis Perez, of HMK, and Judy Perez, of Mountain Maille Jewelry, are both happy with the new stores, which officially opened on June 1.

“There are a lot of good things in Cottonwood Square,” Dennis Perez said. “The traffic is nicer and the space just fits us better.

Perez said they were looking to relocate, but wanted to stay in Niwot, so when the Painted Primrose moved they knew the space would be perfect for them. Already the stores get a lot of foot traffic in the new location, which has a more boutique feel to it than the previous store.

Perez said she’s very happy with the move and enjoys her new studio space. “My customers are finding us,” she said of the new store. “The studio is more functional, but I’ll have to figure out what to do for my classes in the fall.”

Dennis Perez said they are making a fresh start and working on letting the community know about their move. He said they, along with other nearby stores, want to do more for First Friday Art Walks to bring more people to Cottonwood Square.

He also hopes they can draw in some of the high school students who frequently hang out in Cottonwood Square and grab lunch there during the school year.

HMK and Mountain Maille Jewelry are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday. They can be reached at 303-678-9907 or online at hmkjewelers.com.

Niwot Interiors has new owner

Niwot Interiors, an interior design firm, was bought by Susan Cloar in 2014 from Chuck and Linda Klueber. Cloar recently sold the company to Judy Goldman on June 6.

Goldman lives in Boulder, where she’s resided for the past six years, but has lived on both the west and east coast. “I fell in love with Niwot and all the opportunities it had,” Goldman said.

Goldman spent 20 years in the corporate banking industry, then followed her passions to culinary school at Cordon Bleu. She’s been in the creative field for the past 12 years and is “a project manager by trade.” She plans to mentor the designers to bring project managing skills to the firm.

Originally, Goldman was a client at Niwot Interiors for two years and said the sale of the business was “a perfect hand off from Susan, who became a dear friend, to me to take it to the next level.”

She said she’s planning to rebrand the business and expand it strategically, which includes putting all the designs online, updating the technology and expanding to other areas. She plans to get architects and designers involved at future projects’ inceptions.

The firm will be setting up a formal international program for students from nationally recognized design programs.

When asked if Cloar will still be involved in the business, Goldman said, “Susan will still be involved. She’s staying on as a designer, and the transition has been flawless with her help.”

The store recently moved further down the street on 2nd Avenue and is now located at 104 2nd Avenue, next to Little Bird.

Fabulous Finds opens new store

Fabulous Finds is an upscale consignment store located in Longmont, but recently opened a new location, Fabulous Finds Fashion Outlet in Gunbarrel next to King Sooper’s. The new store aims to support women in the community who are in need, and benefits A Woman’s Work, fund for local women in need—a non-profit organization located in Longmont.

“This store is different,” owner Clarissa Edelen said of the new store. “People can bring in items to this store and donate to [A Woman’s Work] account. All these years, I’ve been donating the things that haven’t been sold to various charities, and thought we could be giving A Woman’s Work a lot more money.”

The new store will be donating a percentage of its proceeds to A Woman’s Work, and although they’re only donating 10 percent now, Edelen said she hopes to increase that after the store gets on its feet.

“It’s not a non-profit store, but a collaborative effort with A Woman’s Work,” Edelen explained. “In exchange, they have volunteers that come in and help when we need it.”

Edelen explained the store was supposed to open in January, but had to wait while the previous business found a new location. Although they have only been open a little over a week, Edelen said the store has received positive feedback from the community.

“We’re so thrilled to be able to have a retail space in Gunbarrel,” she stated. “The place is growing so quickly. We’re hoping it’s going to be good venture for A Woman’s Work and it helps us here too with our space constraints.”

Fabulous Finds labels itself as a “guilt-free retail therapy existence,” offering women’s clothing, accessories, furniture and home decor.

The Fabulous Finds store in Gunbarrel does not accept consignments, only donations. People wanting to consign for A Women’s Work can do so at the main location in Longmont, located at 600 S. Airport Rd.

The new Gunbarrel location is located at 6565 Gunpark Dr. It’s hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Hilltop Chiropractic North opens second office

Hilltop Chiropractic opened a new office, Hilltop Chiropractic North, in Gunbarrel in January. Husband and wife team, Dr. Hillary and Dr. Topher Rowenhorst, run the practice together with Topher working at their South Boulder location and Hillary working in the Gunbarrel location. The Rowenhorsts opened their practice in South Boulder three years ago, and Hillary said they were at the point where they wanted to expand their business.

“We wanted to serve more people so we decided to open a second location that was more northern,” she said. “We had a lot of people coming from Longmont, and the Niwot, Gunbarrel area.”

Hillary Rowenhorst said both clinics work with families; all ages in all stages of life from newborns, to pregnant women, to elderly patients. “It’s a wide variety but we really see a lot of kids,” Rowenhorst said.

The office prides itself on having a friendly staff, short wait times and same day appointments, to make patients’ experiences as efficient as possible.

“Our offices are very family-friendly oriented, so everyone feels [like they’re] friends when they come in,” Rowenhorst said. “Appointments are very efficient and we can get people in the same day they call. We don’t have long waiting periods.”

The couple has lived in Boulder for six years and both are excited to serve the communities of Boulder County at two locations. The South Boulder practice is located at 5277 Manhattan Circle, Ste. 260; the Gunbarrel office is located at 6666 Gunpark Drive, Ste. 100.

Hilltop Chiropractic will be hosting an open house at its Gunbarrel location on Thursday, June 23 from 4-6:30 p.m. for anyone who wants to learn more about the practice and meet the doctors.
