All Local, All The Time

Auction for Niwot High School to close soon

The Niwot High School Education Foundation is currently holding an online auction, and the clock is ticking.

With over $17,000 worth of locally-donated good, services and gift certificates, this marks the first time the foundation has tried to raise money through an online auction.

Teresa Parrot, who is with the non-profit foundation, said that they are different from other boosters because they focus on raising funds for classroom materials instead of athletics.

“We were looking for new and different ways to raise money,” Parrot said. “So we get grant applications from the teachers to help with their needs in the classrooms. We also offer scholarships to seniors and with the bond passing, we’re starting to think about what needs to happen as far as support for the addition so it continues to provides a good education for our students.”

Parrot said that the foundation hopes to continue a tradition of quality education at NHS.

“I think the hallmark of the Niwot High School education experience is that you have great teachers, and we have that,” Parrot said. “We just want to make sure we give them the resources that they need to prepare our students for life after high school, whether that’s college or a job.

“We have science lab equipment that’s aging. We also want to make sure we give teachers the ability to be creative in how they’re engaging our students.”

She also added that without community support, the foundation would not be able to provide the help it does to NHS.

“I would love to say ‘thank you’ to the Niwot and Longmont communities for their generous support,” Parrot said. “If you think about it, $17,000 in donations is pretty phenomenal for a first-time fundraiser. We could not be more thankful for the way people stepped forward to help.”
