Tara Harbert (Niwot) was named Outstanding Defensive Player at the 2010 Women’s Baseball World Cup in Caracas, Venezuela. Harbert played centerfield for the U.S. team, which finished third in the 11-team tournament, behind Japan and Australia. Harbert, who hits lefthanded and throws righthanded, played collegiate softball at the University of Hawaii and at Colorado State University. She also played in the European Women’s Softball League in 2006, and played in the 2008 World Cup games.

In early action, the U.S. jumped out to a 5-0 lead against Venezuela before losing 7-6 in a second-round game. Harbert drove in a run and reached on an error in the second inning. In the fourth she reached base on a bunt single, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error, and scored on a passed ball, giving the U.S. a 5-0 lead. The U.S. lost in the semi-final round to Japan, 6-1. Harbert reached on a fielder’s choice and scored from first on a double to tie the game at 1-1. Later she bunted for a base hit and advanced to third, but was gunned down at the plate on a 5-2-3 double play with the bases loaded.
