CROSS COUNTRY David Perry (Niwot) joins NHS alum Colin Harris, a redshirt junior, at the University of Portland this fall, where former Cougar assistant Jessie Johnson also serves as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Harris started strong as a freshman in 2008, but has been plagued by injuries since. Portland is one of the top running schools in the country. Miranda Lahman (Niwot) heads off to cross country camp at Western Washington University in September where she will run for the Vikings as a freshman. High school teammate Sydney Coffey (Niwot) plans to run track with Lahman at Western Washington in the spring. Sara Echsner (Niwot) returns for her sophomore season at Lewis & Clark College. Echsner’s best time last season was 24:17.1. Megan Horsch (Niwot) is one of the top returning runners for the University of Northern Colorado. Horsch, a junior, placed 53rd last season in the Big Sky Conference meet, running 22:19.5. She had top 20 finishes in three meets last season. TRACK Scott Player resigned as Niwot High’s head track coach just before school began. NHS Athletic Director Jim Butterfield has posted the position and expects to have a new coach in place by the end of September. Player coached both the boys and girls programs. |
