Clubs For All

Teachers and administrators think of clubs as a way to help students be successful in school, but senior Kelly Lammers said, “Clubs are tons of fun.”

Niwot High School has a wide array of clubs for students to join, and incoming freshmen were introduced to many of those clubs at “Club Rush” held during registration. Environmental Club President Annie Gianosis credited the rush for her club’s tripling in size this year.

To help freshmen transition to high school, teachers Gayle Niss and Mary Sypher sponsor the Link Crew. The 80+ group helps at registration and mentors freshmen at once-a-month gatherings.

One of the Link Crew’s goals is to help students provide positive behavioral support, or “ROAR.” The acronym can be found around the school: Respect, Ownership, Attitude and Responsibility.

New Counselors

The counseling department has two new counselors: Anthony Elliot and David Keyek. Elliot previously worked as a counselor at Thompson Valley High School in Loveland and in Las Vegas. In his spare time he coaches his son’s soccer and baseball teams.

Keyek worked as a counselor at Horizon High School in Thornton and taught literacy and special education for 10 years at Centennial Middle School in Boulder.

International Baccalaureate

The 2010 Niwot High School International Baccalaureate class scored above the world average in 17 of the 22 final exams taken last May. Students performed exceptionally well in Math HL (Higher Level), scoring 20 percent above the world average.

Homecoming

This year’s homecoming game will be Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Everly-Montgomery Field. The Niwot Cougars will take on the Elizabeth Cardinals. A parade will be held at 11 a.m. in downtown Niwot. This year’s homecoming theme is “Back to the Jungle.”
