Lois Davis is the new receptionist, the “face of Silver Creek,” and the first person most people encounter when they walk into the office. Davis previously worked at Erie Middle School and has two children in the St. Vrain Valley School district. She and her family live in Longmont. She is enjoying the friendly new faces at Silver Creek. “I’m looking forward to building relationships with the students and helping them graduate to a better future,” said Davis. Ann Arling is the new secretary to the principal. She previously worked at Clearview School. She has two students at Lyons High School and lives in Lyons. She is already enjoying working with the staff in the office. “There is a lot of teamwork and we all work together,” she said. Erick Finnestead is the new principal at Silver Creek. He was previously the principal at The Manning School in Golden. He lives in Erie with his wife and two daughters. Finnestead is amazed by the compassionate nature of the Silver Creek students he has met so far. On the first day of school he asked some students in the lunchroom to introduce themselves to a new girl from California. He was impressed that the students immediately picked up their own lunches and moved to the new girl’s table and struck up a conversation with her. “This is such a supportive community of young people,” said Finnestead. “There are lots of niches to fulfill a sense of belonging for every student,” he said. Last year’s statistics showed 81 percent of Silver Creek students were involved in co-curricular activities. “And with something for everybody that will increase this year,” he said. Concert Choir, Faculty Perform at 9/11 Memorial Concert The Concert Choir joined with choirs from around the district to perform at an emotional commemorative concert at the Vance Brand auditorium on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The program included individual performances by choirs from Silver Creek, Niwot, Skyline, Longmont and Frederick. SVVSD Superintendent Don Haddad presented opening remarks and numerous speakers, including local first responders Tim Lewis and Ted Poszywak, shared their thoughts on the anniversary of 9/11. Videos gave a glimpse into local school officials’ memories and reactions. The event also honored locals previously and currently serving in the armed forces. The Concert Choir performed “Bring Him Home” from Les Miserables. Band director Jay Clanin and Assistant Principal Eric Ottem performed “Taps” on trumpets, and joined with combined choirs from Niwot, Skyline, Lyons, Erie, Longmont and Frederick to close out the program performing “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” The event was recorded and is available on DVD.
