Rotary Donates Dictionaries SPECIAL TO THE COURIER The Rotary Club of Niwot recently distributed more than 60 dictionaries to third graders at Niwot Elementary School and about a dozen English as a second language dictionaries at Niwot High School. The dictionaries are part of an annual project of the Rotary Club and a passion for Rotarian Kelly Blackman. Blackman serves as the project chair and leads the talks to the students as the books are passed out to students. Blackman said that the third graders are the target age for dictionaries because “up to now, the students have been learning to read, and now they are starting to read to learn.” Club members spent a short time with each class explaining dictionary uses and the ideals of Rotary. The Rotary Club of Niwot chose October as the month to distribute dictionaries as a way to honor Noah Webster, who was born in October. This distribution is also part of a larger nationwide project, and more than 12 million dictionaries have been distributed through this program. The Rotary Club of Niwot meets Thursday mornings at 7:15 at the Left Hand Grange. For more information see www.niwotrotary.org.
