The Niwot United Methodist Church celebrated its 140th Anniversary on Oct. 3, 2010.

Bishop Elaine Stanovsky of the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Methodist Church, gave the message at the 140th Anniversary Service at the Niwot United Methodist Church Oct. 3.

Stonovsky was well versed on the history of Niwot, including the town, the church and the chief.  She spoke of recent reconciliation efforts with members of the Arapaho tribe who are descendants of Arapahos, including Chief Niwot, who lost their lives at the Sand Creek Massacre in 1864 at the hands of militia led by Col. John Chivington, a Methodist preacher.

Pam Everhart (left) and Choir Director Dale Heidebrecht sang during the worship service at the 140th Anniversary of the Niwot United Methodist Church, as Tyler Kemp lights the candles.  A screen projection of the original church building appears at the right.

Former Brigadoon Glen neighbors Karen Simpson (left) and Elayne Dageenakis attended the 140th Anniversary Celebration of the Niwot United Methodist Church Oct. 3.  Simpson has been a member of the church since 1976, while Dageenakis, who now lives in Johnstown, was a member of the church from 1971-1981.  The late George Dageenakis, Elaine's brother-in-law, served as pastor at the church from 1971-1975.

Joanna Kunselman (right) and her husband Doug renewed acquaintances with Joe Guy (center) of Heatherwood at the 140th Anniversary Celebration of the Niwot United Methodist Church Oct. 3.  Kunselmans brought flowers to the celebration in honor of Joanna Kunselman's parents, Harry and Verna Nelson, who were long-time members of the church.  Guy is the oldest continuously active member of the church, having joined in 1972.
