“Niwot” means “left-handed,” so where could left-handed day be better celebrated? This year, the day was extended to a weekend whic

h included a Rhythm on the Rails concert, and specials offered by local businesses.

Lefty’s Pizza offered 50 percent off their pizzas, Colterra offered free dessert with a purchase of a meal, Trepeddas offered 10 percent off a meal, Abo’s offered two pizzas slices for the price of one and Niwot Market’s dinners were also discounted for lefties.

Many folks enjoyed the deals alongside their neighbors in the beautiful summer sunset.

The Niwot Tavern was rocking with an offer of a free pint from a cask of Sawtooth Ale made by Left Hand Brewing Company with the purchase of another pint. Locals settled in for the “popping of the bung hole” on the cask, complete with a rousing show from the Left Hand Brewery representative. Customers were thrilled with the ceremony.

The staff of Niwot Tavern fervently filled orders for hours as the crowd continued to grow over the evening, but the cask of ale was sold out within the first half hour. Meanwhile, prizes were given and new friends were made.

Sponsors are hoping that next year’s Left Hander’s Appreciation Day will be even bigger and draw crowds from farther away. There are already conversations about getting more sponsors and eventually building the event beyond Niwot’s borders.
