Rhythm on the Rails Begins June 9 This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it On June 9, Niwot’s Rhythm on the Rails debuts with Girls on Top! Satir DeMarco, who books the summer acts, said, “Every time they play, they get most folks dancing and singing. It seemed a perfect start to the season.” Hazel Miller will be performing on July 28, and FACE will close out the season on Aug. 18.
Other musical highlights will be local favorite and honorary Niwotian, Rebecca Folsom. Folsom and her husband were living in Niwot after the Four Mile Canyon Fire threatened their home, but have since returned to the mountains. Mojo Mamma, another group with local ties, including former Niwot High Band Director Doug Carmichael, recently relocated its accredited music school to south Longmont. “Unlike anything we’ve had,” are the words DeMarco used to describe the band Kutandara. “Marimbas, horns, vocal and incredible dance music. All ages play in the band,” she said. Paul Soderman and the band Bluez House are considered world class artists. One on One is a crowd pleaser, as is Something Underground, which consists of two brothers along with a drummer. Lionel Young will also be back. Young recently won the International Blues Competition, competing against hundreds of bands from around the world. DeMarco said, “He is touring in the U.S. and other continents. This was his only available date and he gave it to us.” Meg Denbow, director of communications for Boulder Creek Events, said, “There aren’t huge changes this summer. It’s a formula that works and we are happy to bring it back to the community.” The NCAA will start running Rhythm on the Rails this year. “We are happy to see Boulder Creek Events back working with us to transition to a new situation next year,” said Tim Wise. Bruce Warren added, “We will be making an effort to move to zero waste by encouraging people and vendors to compost and recycle. We are working with the county to get containers for that purpose.” Applications will be accepted for vendors until the first concert, which typically has included everything from arts and crafts, flowers and produce stands to a variety of foods. A full listing of the Thursday concert series is in this edition of the Courier and is online at the Boulder Creek events web site, www.bouldercreekevents.com. |
