New Niwot Trails Construction April 2011 Boulder County is constructing two new trails in Niwot. The Dry Creek Trail will connect neighborhoods west of Niwot High School to the existing path located behind the high school, just south of the fenced playing fields. The second trail, known as the LOBO Trail, runs along the west side of 83rd Street. The St. Vrain Valley School Board voted unanimously on March 9 to grant the county an easement on the school property, after hearing public comment from Bruce Warren, Katherine Koehler and Heidi Storz, long-time Niwot home owners who are active in the high school community and NCA, which supports the establishment of this trail. The Dry Creek trail will establish a secure path for Niwot students to bike and walk to school. The county will add a six-foot-high chain link fence for a length of 150 feet to secure the playing fields and give the athletics department the ability to continue to control field access and sell admission tickets to baseball and soccer games. The school district will receive a one time payment of $15,000 from Boulder County for this easement. The Dry Creek Trail will be built south of houses along Gold Nugget Drive in Overbrook, and connect to a trail in the Waterford Park subdivision, that connects to the trail on the property, completing another section of the Niwot Loop Trail which was platted in 1996 through these residential subdivisions. The Longmont to Boulder Trail (LOBO) Trail is a 12-mile planned trail that is part of the trail system in Gunbarrel, Niwot, and county open space properties connecting the City of Boulder with Longmont. The trail segment follows 83rd Street north from Left Hand Valley Grange Park in Niwot, turns northeast across county open space parallel to SH 113 crosses Left Hand Creek, then turns east to 95th Street, crossing under N 95th Street Construction on the 83rd Street segment was started in early March and is expected to be completed by June. |
